Teen hit riding bike to school

A 14 year old Shorewood High School student was critically injured after a collision with a semi truck just before 7:30am Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said the teen was westbound on N 175th St, on the sidewalk on the north side of the street, and was approaching Aurora Ave N.

A semi truck was also westbound on N 175th St and was making a right turn to go northbound on Aurora when the collision occurred.

The boy received critical injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to Harborview Hospital.

Firefighters at the headquarters station at 175th and Aurora grabbed their equipment and ran across the street to render immediate aid.

Northbound Aurora is closed for several hours from N 175th to N 185th for the investigation. Specific factors contributing to the accident have not been determined at this time.

Principal Bill Dunbar sent a message to parents which included the following:

In an effort to not interfere or distract from their investigation, we will be asking all students to remain on campus today while law enforcement completes their investigation. If you have existing plans to pick your child up early from school, please use the main front entrance next to the office. 

We do have additional counseling support in our school today and throughout the week that is available to anyone in our school community who may need someone to talk to.
