No Two People Learn the Same Way
Since the start of the school year I have been pushing myself to incorporate more activities and lessons that happen in and outside of my music room, from and out of our seats, and utilizing different ways that students learn.Growing up I loved music, or course, but that wasn't the only subject I enjoyed in school. The more that I think about the reasons I enjoyed school so much is that my teachers were incredible inventors of new ways of learning. We had math outside, reading in the hall, music in the gym and even brought science to the library.
One thing that was consistent through all of the activities was that the teacher was empowering a different way his/her students could learn a subject topic. This reached all of the different learning styles a student possessed and lead to greater engagement and enjoyment of school.
In my second grade music classes, we used a different way to learn the shapes of our rhythms and how to create them using the WHOLE class! We started out by picking some alphabet letters that we thought we could master pretty well, and the students did a great job! Next, we moved on to creating the rhythms that we have been learning and I was incredibly impressed, not only by how well they worked together, but how accurate their finished product was. Here are some pictures of our FORMATIONS below.
