Future Authors

Welcome back from a long Winter Break! The students in 3B had a well-earned break to be with their families, but here is what they were working so hard on before break let out.

These students have been working very hard in both reading and writing. Both of these units have had a focus on informational texts. As a culminating activity in writing, the students in 3B authored books on an area of their own expertise. These final pieces were phenomenal!

It’s clear that these students have been working hard to apply what they have discovered in mentor texts into their own pieces. In many students’ final copies, I noticed text features such as illustrations, labels, diagrams, captions, texts boxes and

more.

Additionally, I noticed such passion from these young authors. It is so important to give students choice in their learning. When given the chance to teach the class about something they’re passionate about, their writing came to life. Many of my students even engaged their reader to become passionate about the topic they were going to read about.

I could feel the energy of excitement as the students were writing these pieces and excited to share what they have created.

Overall, I was very proud of the amount of effort that was put into this writing unit and final piece. Without a doubt there are some future authors here in 3B!
