Book Clubs!
We have started something very excited in 3rd grade: book clubs! Our students have grown into
astonishing readers and are ready to talk about their reading with their peers. During book club,
students meet and discuss the book that their group has been assigned. This increase in
independence is very exciting for the students.

Students are also allowed to choose their group’s book. This ability to choose a choice book is very engaging for our third graders.
I was so impressed at how engaged students were in their first book club conversations. Students took turns summarizing the text, making predictions, asking questions and retelling their favorite parts of the story.
It is so rewarding to see how much these students have grown and what they can do with only
facilitation from a teacher. Students will continue to work on ways to collaborate and work effectively
in a group setting.
