The Many Projects in Art

This month in the art room...

First grade has been learning about symmetry and have been putting it into practice in their own art. First grade chooses between the drawing symmetry center, painting symmetry center, or collaging symmetry center. As long as they are creating symmetry, they are allowed to make whatever image they want, with the medium they have chosen.

                      

Second grade finished learning about warm and cool colors, and creating a paper weaving with their warm and cool color painted papers. They are now working on adding pattern to their artwork, and they can choose between the drawing center, painting center, collage center, or cardboard sculpture center.

Third grade just finished their painting projects where they had to come up with their own, creative way of painting without a paintbrush. They are now learning how to weave, and can choose between weaving a tapestry, a purse, a phone case, a monster, or a figure. 

 

   

Fourth grade finished their sewing project and began a printmaking unit. They chose between four printmaking centers, styrofoam printing, yarn printing, plastic bag printing, and collagraph printing. Unlike a normal drawing or painting where it is one single artwork, printmaking requires making multiple copies of the same image, much like a stamp.

 
 

 

 

Fifth grade just finished their balance project where they learned about three different types of balance: radial symmetry, symmetry, and asymmetry. They then chose one type of balance to focus on for their artwork, and they chose the center they wanted to work in, origami, cardboard sculpture, collage painting, or drawing center.

Sixth graders are currently creating stop motion animation videos. They created storyboards and took over 70 photos of their artwork moving across a background. They also chose a song to go with their images. They are now editing their photos and putting them into WeVideo on their chromebook, to create their stop motion video.
