April showers bring May flowers.  As the month is ending I would like to give special shout out to our PTO and all that they do.  One of my favorite activities that they sponsor is the Read- A Thon.  This year students raised over $9,000 dollars and read over 72,000 minutes.  There were some fabulous prizes awarded to students.  The best prize however was probably the time that students read with family and alone enjoy good books and playing the "movie in their mind"  as they read.  The Read -a Thon is a great way to encourage all readers to do some reading.  It is very  motivating.    As April is ending and May begins let's be sure that children don't lose their love of reading just because their is no competition or contest.  Keeping their stamina will be even more important during the summer months.  Studies have shown that when students return to school their reading skills drop because of the lack of reading in the summer.  The Woodridge Public Library and stores like Barnes and Noble offer prizes for summer reading. 
 Be sure to "Paws for Reading" all you can!
